A N.H. woman left a lobster roll in her car. A bear ate it.
“He did a better job eating that lobster roll in my car and not making a mess than I would’ve done.”
Realtor Lobin Frizzell decided to get a lobster roll in Cornish, Maine on the way home to Sandwich, N.H. after dropping a client off at the airport last Tuesday. She then picked up her daughter from soccer practice, and went into the house to start dinner for her, leaving the lobster roll and fries in the car.A half hour later, she went back out to grab her food. But it was gone: The only thing left was three french fries, and bear paw prints. The car was parked right next to the garage door, but no one in the house heard the stealthy bear putting his paws on the lobster roll.“He must’ve been so quiet,” Frizzell said, noting that the container was still in the car and that’s where the bear likely consumed what must’ve been a rare find for it.Bay Haven Lobster Pound uses large pieces of lobster in its rolls, Frizzell said. The eatery also provides butter and mayonnaise in separate containers so patrons can fix the New England delicacy to their liking.Frizzell, who works for Realtor 603 Property Group Keller Williams, said the roll was on her mind as she drove home.“I took one bite when I was 30 miles away from my house,” she said. She left the car window down when she went inside with her daughter, and when she went out to get the food, she saw the food container and thought perhaps she had brought the roll inside without it.“That’s when I looked down and I saw the claw marks on the window,” she said, noting that the bear must’ve used the window to commit its scavenging. Other than the fries, empty container, and dusty paw prints, the bear left no other evidence of his act.“It was totally clean,” Frizzell said. “He did a better job eating that lobster roll in my car and not making a mess than I would’ve done.”Seeing bears isn’t uncommon in Sandwich, Frizzell said, and she’s happy to live in a place where wildlife can coexist.“I just thought it was silly,” she said.
