Police identify 22-year-old killed in Gloucester crash
The crash occurred Monday morning on Route 128.
A 22-year-old man was killed Monday morning when his sedan struck the back of a tractor-trailer on Route 128 in Gloucester, prompting authorities to shut down part of the highway for several hours, officials said.Jonathan Silva, of Gloucester, was behind the wheel of a 2012 Kia Forte and was traveling northbound when he hit the rear of a 2000 Kenworth truck heading in the same direction, Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.Troopers responded to reports of the crash, just south of Exit 12, around 7:45 a.m. The cause remained under investigation early Monday afternoon.Silva was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the truck, a 64-year-old Lawrence man, was not injured, according to officials.Police shut down Route 128 for several hours during the morning commute, diverting all northbound traffic at Exit 13 onto Route 133.“One lane of travel was also closed southbound to aid in the crash investigation,” officials said. “The scene was clear, opening all lanes at approximately 11:50 a.m.”State police troopers from the Danvers barracks are continuing to investigate the incident.

Authorities also reported a second crash in the area Monday on the southbound side of the highway left a person with minor injuries.
