A Brockton man is facing several assault charges after he allegedly stabbed a tow truck driver outside a restaurant in Allston Thursday night.
Boston police said 40-year-old John Burgo previously clashed with the tow operator in a road rage incident a couple days prior. He’s due for arraignment Friday in the Boston Municipal Court’s Brighton Division on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
It was not immediately clear whether Burgo had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
Officers responded to the reported stabbing near Lone Star Taco Bar at 479 Cambridge St. just before 6 p.m., the Boston Police Department said in a news release. Upon arrival, they found an adult man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police said the man — whom they did not identify — was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Officers learned that Burgo reportedly got out of his vehicle and approached the tow truck, prompting a verbal altercation that quickly turned violent, according to the news release.
A nearby MBTA bus allegedly caught Burgo on camera, and police said officers determined his vehicle fled toward North Beacon Street. Boston police broadcast descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle and learned Burgo had allegedly been involved in a prior road rage incident with the tow operator on Dec. 3, according to the news release.
Massachusetts State Police later located Burgo on Storrow Drive and pulled him over in the area of Clarendon and Back streets.
The owner of Brighton Towing told Boston 25 News the alleged stabbing victim is one of his drivers and just started working for him a few days ago. A representative for the company declined to comment when reached by phone Friday.
