A driver who police said nearly hit a 10-year-old boy while passing a school bus in Plymouth was arrested Wednesday, according to officials.
At 8:45 a.m. on Friday, the Plymouth Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle that used the caller’s circular driveway to pass a school bus that had its lights activated, according to a statement from police.
Police said a video shows a white SUV using the driveway, as the caller described, to pass the lawfully stopped school bus while it was picking up students, the statement said.
The SUV allegedly almost hit the caller’s son.
“It says right on the back of the bus that it’s unlawful to pass, and the lights were on, the bus sign was out and the doors were open ready for the kids to get on,” Alicia Tallent, the caller, told Boston 25.
Brenda Mello, 59, was arrested for failure to stop for a school bus, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, authorities said.
She was expected to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Wednesday.
